“Watt Powers Our Planet?”

Twamley Leads Professional Development for Elementary Teachers

At STEM Con & Beyond 2023, teachers for grades 3-6 explored “Watt Powers Our Planet” with award-winning author and educator Erin Twamley’s professional development session. STEM Con & Beyond is one of the largest international virtual conferences reaching elementary STEM teachers. Twamley has been presenting at this conference since 2021.

Twamley’s captivating session highlighted ways teachers can introduce energy sources by sharing the careers of Energy Superheroes – people who install solar panels, dig deep wells, and install zigzagging power lines. This professional development builds upon her book release of Everyday Superheroes: Women in Energy Careers.

Twamley also moderated a live discussion with five Energy Superheroes featured in the book. Teachers need to hear directly from the professionals to spark their curiosity and interest. The panel discussion focused on the role teachers had in the Superhero’s lives and how teachers could help drive us into the future.
