Energizing Future STEMinists

In the dynamic USA Girl Scouts Overseas (USAGSO) STEMinists: Adventures in STEM with Everyday Superheroes, program series, Girl Scouts worldwide embark on a monthly STEM adventure with real-life Energy Superheroes. Each month via Zoom, the careers of women in STEM and the curiosity of Girl Scouts Overseas are illuminated with hands-on activities allowing Girl Scouts to dive into STEM.

In its fourth year, Erin Twamley is the co-founder and host of this monthly virtual program that began as a way to connect Girl Scouts around the world during the global pandemic. Girl Scouts are in more than 80 countries. Like most kids, Girl Scouts are eager to connect real-world solutions to problems. Through this program, all Girl Scout levels, from Daisies to Ambassadors are encouraged to participate and soak up all things STEM together.

In 2023-2024 the Girl Scouts are focused on the question, “How do we power our planet?” These Girl Scout STEMinists are meeting with scientists, engineers, researchers, and managers who are leading in the energy transition. Along the way, the Girl Scouts are earning STEM badges.

In 2024, this program is going LIVE! Twamley is hosting in-person sessions for Girl Scouts to meet locally and earn STEM-related badges. Twamley has hosted a session in Germany and is planning for Belgium (Winter 2024) and Tawain (Spring 2024).

Erin Twamley’s collaboration with USAGSO and STEM Superheroes showcases the program’s global impact. Reaching Girl Scouts living overseas, the STEMinist series is cultivating problem-solving skills and a sense of wonder for future Superheroes.

STEM Superheroes interested in sharing their expertise with USAGSO Girl Scouts can connect with Erin Twamley at etwamley@usagso.org.
